Stream

Floor lamp design

Dimensions: height 2100mm, width 700mm, depth 400mm

Materials: metal, clear acrylic sheeting, black acrylic sheeting, plaster, light power 3.6W, threaded rods, nuts.

The inspiration comes from the light of the setting sun shining on the stream and the ripples of light in the water. This project collects various textures (water patterns) reflected in water by different sounds in human and the natural world, uses these textures to integrate into the design of lamps to achieve the gorgeous scene of light and shadow on the water surface in the natural world. Explored a more harmonious relationship between man and nature.

The lamp shell evolves into a disc shape. The board is made of three layers with different materials, to achieve the effect of natural light shining on the water. The long pole connects the discs intersects with the main pole, bringing visual extension and beauty. The base at the bottom of the lamp is made of plaster. The rough undulating texture of plaster is like ripples on water. Natural scenes are integrated into daily life to bring users a comfortable natural experience.

The main support structure of the lamp is made of high-strength steel pipes. The disc support rods that cross the main rod are threaded rods. Users can use nuts to fix these water-patterned discs, which are detachable. Users arrange and install water pattern discs according to their own preferences and usage environment. The angle of the lamp can also be adjusted and can be rotated up and down.

Place the lamp in the living room or study room. Each water-patterned disc is rotatable, and users can adjust the disc to change the light transmitted through it. The angle of the light source can also be adjusted.

Design concept

Water breeds and contains all things, and all life is inseparable from water. However, people often waste or pollute water. When
people waste or pollute water, does the water also respond? Using sound as a medium, experiment with how different types of natural and man-made sounds are reflected in water.

Different patterns have different meanings. Some water patterns are like flowers, and some are like fireworks. Everythings are born of water, and water contains all things. We should respect the water, and nature.

Integrate natural things into human life, thereby raising people’s awareness of symbiosis with nature in the future.

Manufacturing process

I try to use tools to read the stories of nature, a process that transforms sounds into patterns. Different audios reflect different textures in the water.

The speakers are connected to the amplifier board, and the sound vibrations cause the water to vibrate. Then patterns appear on
the water surface.
